Email Advertising
We live out of our email In Boxes. Of all the innovations we have enjoyed thanks to the Internet, email is the one most likely to stick with us. And despite the uproar over SPAM, email advertising will only become more effective as targeting improves and advertisers pay more attention to email not strictly as an immediate, direct response vehicle but as one element in a coordinated marketing communications program.
Email newsletters (ezines) deliver information, typically for free, by email to people who subscribe. Given the low startup costs in publishing email newsletters (zero!), many newsletters address niche markets that would not be profitable for the print magazine giants. Subjects such as technical payroll training, Star Wars movies and grief counseling for parents of missing children are some examples. For a few hundred dollars, advertisers may reach thousands upon thousands of ideal prospects with advertising developed to speak to a single audience.
Not all print publishers have ignored the power of email newsletters. Plastics rotomolder, MOD, for example, advertises in the email newsletters of Chemical Equipment and Material Handling Product News to leverage the impact of its respective print campaigns.
For many companies, developing email newsletters that target existing customers and prospects provides an inexpensive, flexible way to stay in contact with these VIPs. For others, an internal employee relations email newsletter bridges the communications gap that seems to afflict companies of all shapes and sizes.
The process of developing and managing email newsletters and staying committed to their timely release can be labor-intensive. epr, however, offers an email newsletter management service. epr
- recommends the format and release frequency
- develops the content
- creates the email list
- supervises the list host
- releases the newsletter to the list
- manages subscriptions
- and even devises ways to create revenue from the newsletter
